I am never going to anything taught by non-working professionals ever again. No matter how heavily they're endorsed, it always seems to be a flop for me.
(To give you an idea of how badly this guy flopped: I attended every day of high school. I did my damnedest to go to every college class, no matter what. After paying for the class, and both of us being pretty obsessively into getting our money's worth... neither I nor my studiomate wanted to go for the last day.) |

Had some time to do personal work since some pro stuff was delayed:
( under ) I think I should be able to show some of my recent work soon, and show off my copy of Expose. Can't wait! |

| State of the Artist Update |
[Mar. 19th, 2009|11:31 am] |
I finally booked a room for Comic-con - I couldn't get my first choice hotel, so I'm out of walking distance, but it's a reasonable backup and people do cancel every year, so I still have hope of getting a spot in the one I want. Still, pro pass achieved, hotel booked, should be there end of Fri-Sat-early Sun. like usual.
For next year, I'm DEFINITELY just booking a room at the end of the con, though. Ooof.
Got word that two pieces were accepted into Expose this year! Based on the two sample pages I saw, looks like it's going to be a nice book.
Finally have enough work done to send out mailers, too, which is unlikely to net me much, but I have to try anyway. |

( Done! )
Work seems thin on the ground lately. Anybody want to go back to the patron system? |

Currently working on a stack of graphics for a game, and I've got one last card to finish (but must shoot ref first, so that needs to happen this evening.) Still, it's good to be working again after all of the moving fuss!

| Year In Review |
[Dec. 27th, 2008|05:28 pm] |
The 2008 year in review, as pretty much everyone else is doing:
Finished 91 paintings, of which 5 were personal work. Doing the math was a little shocking to me - I used to get a personal piece done every month or so, but I also used to average out around 60-70 paintings total a year. No wonder I had some periods of feeling burned out this year.
Gained some large companies as clients I didn't have before, and generally made more money than last year. Hopefully that'll be sustained into next year!
Got lots of new artbooks, of which my favorites were probably Ian McCaig's Shadowline, the Cornwell book (finally found it under $100, haha!), and the new Leyendecker book. Really inspiring stuff.
Did plenty of life drawing in Kevin Chen's class, and improved my structure significantly. It was the first time I'd taken a class since leaving Savannah. I'll likely take another class in 2009, but I may take a break to do personal work.
Hope all of you had a productive year! |
